GQ: projects + reviews
THE BOMB-ITTY
"The Bomb-itty of Errors" is an ADD-RAP-TATION of Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors." It's the Bard over beats, with etched-in musical numbers. The Bomb-itty began as GQ's independent project at ETW of Tisch School of the Arts (NYU), during his senior year of '98.
The Bomb-itty was written and created by, and originally starred: Jordan Allen-Dutton, Jason Catalano, GQ, and Erik Weiner, also starring, and with all music by - JAQ. GQ first produced the project with ETW, and together with his little bro J, and big bro T, formed Q Brothers Productions, to subsequently co-produce The Bomb-itty off-Broadway in NYC, as well as in their own home town of Chicago, at The Royal George Theatre.
"The Bomb-itty of Errors" is currently in the early stages of film production, and the original play is touring different parts of the world, including Holland, where the producers commissioned a famous Dutch rapper to translate the script. All we can say is - "Thank you. We hope it's good."
SCRATCH and BURN
Scratch and Burn is a musical comedy series created by and starring Jordan Allen-Dutton, GQ, JAQ, and Erik Weiner. Having only aired 5 out of 8 completed episodes, and with the cult following it maintains to this day, we have only one question for MTV - What are you thinking??? What are you waiting for??? Okay, two questions. Just put it out on DVD already!
JUST ANOTHER STORY
"Just Another Story" is a slice-of-life drama, with some comic moments, and a few musical numbers, about a weekend in the life of a kid growing up in Queens, NY.
GQ wrote it while he was shooting his first movie, "What's The Worst That Could Happen?" He had just bought a lap-top and discovered trailer time, so he thought he'd make the most of it. The result was the first movie he ever wrote, which his brother JQ had scored most of, before anyone else had even read it. Together with the passions of Robert Kessel and Nina Wolarsky at Hart/Sharp Entertainment and the greenlight (and greenbacks) from Showtime, a boy's dream came true.
GQ wrote, directed, starred in, and co-produced (w/ the Q Bros.) his own movie, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, aired regularly on Showtime, and is now available to rent almost everywhere. With the help of a list of people too long to write out, GQ came in well under his allotted budget.
